About Therapy

There are various reasons for coming to therapy and often the reason is a combination of many things. Therapy is a safe place to share, ponder, reflect, question and grieve. I will listen respectfully as we look together with compassion and curiosity at difficulties you are experiencing. It can help with untangling thoughts and emotions and be a regular practice of understanding yourself more deeply. By reflecting on past experiences that can dominate present experiences we can become more conscious of blocks, patterns that no longer serve us and parts of ourselves.

Working with a psychotherapist can be a source of support and guidance as you navigate life and I place emphasis on building trust and understanding who you are. The relationship between client and therapist is at the heart of the work we do. Some may want only a few sessions, while others may stay in therapy for years. Psychotherapy is not about an “expert” telling you what to do. While a therapist has years of specialist training, a good therapeutic relationship encourages the innate healing capacity already within you.

My transpersonal way of working can include guided meditations, visualisations, working with art and exploring dreams. Working creatively can help connect to the parts of ourselves that live closest to the unconscious, often expressed in dreams, images and symptoms that may be trying to get your attention. I aim to create a nurturing environment where we can safely explore this including awareness to what you are feeling in your body. When we tune in and listen carefully to our inner wisdom it can help get to the root of things.

A regular therapy session is a space to be more yourself, rediscover your true nature and feel empowered to create a life you find fulfilling. I encourage clients to participate in sessions actively which may initially feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar territory, but not always. There is also plenty of space for joy and humour to have a place too. Many of us long for change in our lives yet it is of course scary to take steps to make those changes. You don't have to go it alone and a willingness to make choices and take risks, even small ones, is essential for growth. I am passionate about supporting my clients in developing inner resources and coping skills to carry with them throughout life.
